Another pre-release build - 2201
For those of you who like to play with the latest and greatest, pre-release build 2201 of Vienna 2.2 is now available. You can grab it directly from SourceForge:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/vienna-rss/Vienna2.2.0.2201.zip
(Check for Updates won't work for going from 2200 to 2201 - sorry. We'll have that working for subsequent beta builds).
If you're using build 2200, please upgrade. This build fixes a potential database corruption in SQLite that the folks over there discovered. (We'll be releasing a fix for 2.1 very shortly just to be on the safe side).
Other changes:
Here is an extensive (though not comprehensive) list of changes:
Remember, Vienna 2.2 is a beta release, not a production release, and is definitely not finished or fully debugged. Use at your own risk. Back up your database beforehand.
Enjoy!

Where did the Filter control from main window disappear? It is not convenient to go into menu every time I need to change the filter conditions.
It was removed as it wasn't very discoverable and it clashed with the splitter resize thumb on the folder header. There will be new filtering options in a future build that will improve the discoverability of this feature. For now, you need to use the menu. One suggestion is to use the Mac OSX Keyboard & Mouse system preferences to assign your own shortcut keys to the filter options in the menu to make it easier to switch filters.
There's a wide gap on the right side of scrollbar that separates the News and Article detail panels.
I'm not at all keen on the smooth metal look. Previous versions looked fine under ShapeShifter (I usually use Rhapsodized by Max Rudberg), but the new window background graphics make the window look funky.
Otherwise, I like the interface improvements I've been seeing in the testing releases of Vienna, particularly the addition of a regular toolbar.

I am at a loss of words. It so happened, this was the very day I was a little unhappy with the current RSS app ( I won't mention the name) and I was playing around with all those available. I almost considered switching over to bloglines.
I then decided to give Vienna another shot. I am going to be honest, there were a few things I did not about it the first time I tried it ( a long time ago), but the new version is absolutely fantastic.
Again, even though, I hate to compare, among all the RSS readers I have tested - NewsFire, NewsMac, Netnewsfire, Shrook, etc., it is "my" personal favorite.
First, let me say that the new interface is simply awesome. This could be also since I have always had a soft spot for NewsFire/NewsMac appearence. But, anyway, I love it.
Second, I find the tab appearence quite nice. I can't help but find a similarity with Shiira. Are you guys by any chance using a few components from the browser?
Third, I noticed that there is a black box that embraces the toolbar section - this happens when I say, choose small icons and then large icons alternatively. This only happened once though.
Fourth, I noticed that when it reads the opml file, it does not import groups. Not that I am complaining but just to point out.
All in all, simply superb.
Keep up the great work.
Warm regards

Vaishak - the black toolbar is a known bug which should be fixed in 2202.
For the OPM import issue, can you reproduce this with a small opml file and send me that file (to steve at opencommunity.co.uk) so I can look into it? Thanks!

Hmm ... after my comment, I checked out the opml file myself and it did not contain *any* semantic information about the groups. I then realized the RSS app I last opened to export my subscriptions (Shrook) exports as FLAT Opml. When I re-opened Netnewswire lite, I had a separate option to export opml with groups. This contained semantic arrangement into groups. Since everything is working fine now with Vienna, I do not want to try things out with this new file. But if you are interested, I can send it to you anyway.

It took me all of a half hour of playing with this build to get me to switch. Great work!
Suggestion: Perhaps I just missed it, but is there a hotkey to set focus on the "Search all articles" text box? Neither of the normal Apple ones (CMD-F, CMD-OPT-F) or the Firefox (CMD-K) work.
Also, I'm getting a sporadic horizontal scrollbar when using the "Condensed" layout. On certain Feeds, where the length of the title is just a touch shorter than would be necessary to display the scrollbar, the scrollbar appears. As soon as I scroll vertically it goes away.

In 2202, both the 'add subscription' button and the 'mark as read button' are greyed out for some reason, even though both work in other menus
