Vienna 2.1 preview released
In case you hadn't noticed, Jeff and I kicked out the first preview release of Vienna 2.1 to SourceForge on Sunday evening. The web site has been updated with the link and it is there and ready to be downloaded. A quick look at the SourceForge download stats shows 2709 downloads in the last two days which, if they're true, is rather startling and gratifying.
Vienna 2.1 has been a while in coming and considering the fact that Jeff and I have been working in whatever hours we can spare on top of 2.0 maintenance work, there's a lot of changes in there since the last 2.0 release. You can see all the changes at:
http://vienna-rss.sourceforge.net/vienna2.php
Please remember that this is a PREVIEW release. Some things are broken, some things aren't finished and we've a bit more work to do before we're final. But it's a pretty comprehensive release and rather closely reflects where I hoped we'd be. Unfortunately one or two key things got cut such as the sync logic and offline images but those still remain on the to-do list and hopefully I can get to them over the next few months. (Localisation still remains to be completed as is usual at this stage of the project).
You might also notice that the Vienna web site has been overhauled. The site itself has moved to SourceForge for better collaborative maintenance and the links from the opencommunity site currently do a redirect. Eventually I'll wave a magic wand or something and get the DNS settings fixed so we can do away with the redirect. (I know there's a page on SourceForge that talks about how to make this happen with vhosts and CNAMEs but right now I don't have time to fudge around with this.)
Now with 2.1 out the door, I'm heading off on holiday for a couple of weeks so Jeff will be holding down the fort. The initial feedback regarding 2.1 has been very positive and constructive. The new unified layout is getting some attention and it is a pretty new thing so I expect we'll be making some usability tweaks there as we go. Do check out the manual folder resorting and the article filters too.
See ya!
