Vienna 2.1 Released
It's been a long time but I'm happy to announce that Vienna 2.1 is now released. You can download it from the Open Community web page or use Check for Updates (from the Vienna menu in pre-release versions of 2.1 or the Help menu in 2.0.4.)
There are a number of new features in 2.1 which are described on the Features page, but also a host of bug fixes and minor improvements. In keeping with the philosophy of Vienna, we've worked hard to make these improvements simple and seamless. Another significant change is the addition of three new localisations contributed by volunteers. To the languages supported in 2.0.4 we have now added Brazilian Portuguese, Korean and Simplified Chinese.
A list of the key changes in 2.1 include:
1. Support manually sorting folders by default.
2. Added "Increase text size" and "Decrease Text Size" for browser view.
3. Changed key combination for "Cancel Refreshing" to control-command-s to make command-"-" available for text size.
4. Added "Send Link" functionality for article view.
5. Add address bar and refresh, back and forward buttons at the top of the browser web pages.
6. Add -profile command line option to support custom profiles (needed for Portable Vienna).
7. Added "Refresh Folder Images" command.
8. Added "Blog With" command to blog the selected article.
9. Sort article list by multiple columns, saving the order in which columns were sorted.
10. Added "Summary" field which shows the first part of the description.
11. In condensed reading mode with the pane on the right, the headline fields can now be configured.
12. Added "Filter By" to allow articles to be filtered in the article list by all, unread or date.
13. Persist open tabs when Vienna exits and restore them when it restarts.
14. Handles HTTP 410 to mark a feed as unsubscribed.
15. Add button to Mark All Read the selected feeds.
16. Unread articles marked as bold.
17. Allow dragging of Trash folder.
18. Green icon for articles with updated article text.
19. Don't select first article when switching folders.
20. Renaming folders now done by editing the name in the folder pane.
21. Changed modifier key for overriding default browser preference from shift to option.
22. Add Get Info command option and moved Validate command to the info panel.
23. New Layout menu: report, condensed and unified layouts.
24. Provide two new options for new articles notifications: bounce dock icon or no notification at all.
25. Add Keyboard Shortcuts item to Help menu.
26. Change browser's user agent string from Mozilla/Safari to Vienna.
27. Use Sparkle framework for version updates.
Thanks to everybody who assisted with the beta testing and for the valuable and constructive feedback. Personal thanks from me to Jeff for his efforts as co-administrator and a contributor of a whole host of bug fixes to the 2.1 code base over the last few months.

Great job on this release. I find the mark articles as read button useful, and the new unified view is great too, however, it slows my computer to a crawl if I'm viewing a category with many articles in it. The subtle UI changes have also inproved useability, especially the change from a 'play' button, to a 'refresh' button, for refreshing articles (it took me a week to realise what the play button did when I started using Vienna).
When sorting by date with the newest articles at the bottom, Vienna never remembers that I had it scrolled all the way down to the bottom. So when you switch feeds or folders you are always having to scroll back down. 2.0 didn't have this issue, so I'm sticking with it a while longer.
Aiiieeee!
*pant pant* It's all different! It took me a while to sort out if it was me (I've been installing XP on this computer all day) or you and ... Let me say SWEET!
I will second neil's comment though.

Hi was wondering about the page you open in the tabs of vienna.
It would be nice to be able to bookmark them in safari without having to open the page in safari.
BTW the register page on the support page is not working.
Regards Hollow

Hi. I just discovered Vienna, and I'm very pleased.
I did find a bug, and I've been unable to report it (I get an error when I attempt to register in the forums). When I load an article in the internal browser, if the page tries to load a pop-up ad, that ad loads in the current tab, and I can't see the original news page.
To reproduce the bug:
1) Subscribe to http://news.independent.co.uk/index.jsp?service=rss
2) Double-click on an article from that feed
3) The article will load in a new browser tab
4) A second or two later, a flash ad will load in the same browser tab
Sorry to report a bug here - I know this isn't the best place. The sourceforge bug page said to report bugs on the forum, but I can't register on the forum.
Thanks again for this great app!

This is a known issue. We do need to fix the browser handling of popups.
Thanks for the report!

Nice. Yours is my second fave newsreader after NetNewsWire. One small deal-breaker (for me anyway)
Would you consider changing the tab order to leave out the buttons in the lower left? Having a subs > posts > detail > subs tab order is pretty crucial and probably more usable, since adding a new group or subscription is likely a different and less frequently used action in your users' workflow.
In any event, nice app. I really support what you're doing.

I'm a big fan of Vienna, but I couldn't find a form on your site to suggest a new feature.
In regard to refreshing my subscriptions, rather than displaying "Refresh Completed" in the bottom of the UI, I think it would be more helpful to display the last day and time the subscriptions were updated.
Anyways, thank you for the update!

You can suggest new features over at the support forum:

I've downloaded the "Mail Current Article" script for MAC OS X and it does not work.
How can I fix this?
Tks.
